

How does SK9® work?
SK9® is a multi-layer odor-control system. Air carrying odor flows through the layers to reach the activated carbon; when odor molecules contact the carbon, they're trapped inside its microscopic pores. Absorption capacity depends on the product and care, but typically lasts 6–9 months, after which the carbon can be easily re-activated.
• CarbonFlow® one-way lining: our engineered interior lining lets air move in one direction —clean air flows in to reach the carbon and returns to the compartment, while loose carbon dust is held back by a fuzz-textured barrier on the carbon-facing side. This solves the problem most carbon bags have: carbon is a powder, and any lining porous enough to let odor reach it is usually porous enough to leak dust onto your laptop and gear. CarbonFlow® lets the carbon breathe and work without the mess.


SK9® at a molecular level
Activated carbon” on its own means very little — it comes in many forms and concentrations, and cheaper versions are far weaker. Our CarbonClean® formula is a purpose-built carbon felt tuned to a tested concentration: ROA ~1,500 m²/g, 2–3× higher than most imitators. The carbon is encapsulated in the felt so it holds its structure and doesn't spill, while still letting air pass through to do its job. Cheaper “activated carbon” inserts — including thin sheets meant for water filtration — simply can't match this. Superior materials cost more, but anything less is ineffective.


Weather-resistant materials
Every SK9 Tech® bag is built on a rubber-backed fabric (a rubberized PCU-type layer bonded to the outer canvas). This makes the shell non-porous — so it's water-resistant against rain and spills, and it also seals odor in by keeping the outer fabric from breathing. Water resistance and odor containment come from this fabric working together with the carbon system.


Thermal Layer
Most of our bags include an additional foil barrier layer that reinforces odor containment — an extra line of defense that helps keep odors sealed inside the bag. (Smaller bags may not include it.)


Lock it up!
Most bags include a TSA-ready combination lock that secures the double zippers — peace of mind that keeps your valuables locked away. (A few smaller specialty items may not include a lock.)


YKK Double Zippers
Average is never an option. We use YKK zippers — the global reliability standard — for a tighter, more durable seal, and most of our bags feature a double-zipper enclosure. A smell-proof system is only as strong as its opening, so the zipper matters as much as the carbon.

How long does the odor protection last?
Odor protection typically lasts 6–9 months, depending on use and care. After that, the activated carbon can be easily reactivated — so the bag keeps performing long-term instead of being thrown away.
Are Skunk bags water-resistant or waterproof?
Skunk bags are water-resistant, not waterproof. A rubber-backed fabric makes the shell resist light rain and spills, protecting your gear from everyday wet weather, but the bags are not submersible. Water resistance comes from the fabric; the SK9® carbon handles odor.
Do Skunk bags come with a lock?
Most Skunk bags include a combination lock that secures the double YKK zippers, adding security for travel and shared spaces. A few smaller specialty items may not include a lock, so check the individual product page.
